Being back East for the summer, Cam and I decided that we really need to take advantage of every weekend. We are in close proximity to so many cool places, within a matter of a few hours there are so many historical landmarks to see. Hopefully we'll be able to live up to our expectations, because we have a lot of places that we want to visit!
Over Memorial Day weekend we had a lovely surprise. My dad flew my mom out (his gift to her for their anniversary) to come visit us and we had so much fun seeing her! Even though it had really only been a few weeks since we've seen her, it still felt like a long time. We mostly spent the time hanging out with Millie and eating good food. The family we are living with was out of town, so we definitely enjoyed the peace :)
When Friday came around, we decided on a whim to go up to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to see the Amish community. Cam went into work super early and was able to be home by 2 o'clock and we took off! Unfortunately, so did everyone else in the DC area. Haha the traffic was horrible, it took us an hour longer than it should have. Typical for the area, so it wasn't a big deal. The drive there was beautiful! Highways are very different around here. Much smaller and they seem to go through neighborhoods and farms more often. It makes for a very scenic drive - we loved it!
Once we got there we went to a local Farmer's Market and had a lot of fun trying out some Amish food (spices, nuts, bread, dressing, etc.). We also spent most of Saturday out in the Amish land exploring the farms and mostly just people watching. It was absolutely fascinating! The weather wasn't the best, kind of cold and windy but we still really enjoyed the day. Definitely worth a trip out there if you have the time!
